STEREOTYPED BEHAVIORS AND VESTIBULAR AND TACTILE STIMULATION : A HABITUATION PROCESS

Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of vestibular/tactile stimulation on stereotyped behaviors. It was postulated that vestibular/tactile stimuli as "soothing" or familiar stimuli would decrease the arousal level of the children and these stimuli would function to faciliate the habituation process in the novel situation. Result indicated that stereotyped behaviors as an indicator of arousal or tension induced by the novel effects of the enviroment reduced by the stimulation.
